About Sound Roots Connect
For many years we had the ambition to build an online community for those working in or building a career in the music industry, a place where artists and industry from all music genres could connect and share resources and learning.
Prior to Sound Roots Connect we built two prototype platforms: EFEx Digital and Folk Talk Academy. EFEx Digital focused on the community aspect, industry alerts and bespoke offers. Folk Talk Academy offered free learning resources including lectures and essays on many subjects related to working in the music industry.
Sound Roots Connect combines the best parts of these digital offerings to create a space where both experts and newcomers working in music can share knowledge and services.
Those who sign up for free as Guests will receive the latest music industry updates and can access a range of learning resources. Some of these resources will be familiar from EFEx Digital and Folk Talk Academy, however users will also be able to explore a wealth of newly commissioned content as well.
Those who subscribe as Community members for £30 per year will join a supportive network of industry professionals, where they can trade services and expertise, and can explore our extensive Opportunity listings, featuring open calls for showcases and festivals, training sessions, commissions, funding opportunities and more.
Sound Roots Connect and the future of EFEx Digital
Those with pre-existing EFEx Digital subscriptions will soon be granted a year’s Community membership on Sound Roots Connect. You should receive email confirmation of this shortly.
With Sound Roots Connect replacing EFEx Digital and Folk Talk Academy, no new content is planned to be added to either site. Using your previous login information, you will soon be able to access every feature of the new site.
We believe Sound Roots Connect is a hugely important resource for all that work in the music industry and we hope that you find it helpful. We welcome all feedback on how we can make the site work for you at info@soundroots.uk.
About Sound Roots
The Sound Roots Connect platform has been created by Sound Roots. Sound Roots is a registered charity and sector support organisation for folk, roots and acoustic music. We support the sector through offering opportunities for artists to build a sustainable career in the music industry via public facing festivals (including Manchester Folk Festival), standalone events, industry showcasing (English Folk Expo) as well as artist / industry mentoring and training.
